PHP’s Scott Grierson and Craig Morgan recently travelled to northern Europe (The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Germany), where they were able to inspect a number of established bioenergy plants and visit suppliers (even if it was snowing mid-Spring in Jutland!). Being over there really shows what can be done – Denmark is now producing ~50% of their entire nations’ gas supply from renewable gas (biogas) plants, with Germany not far behind at ~40%(unsurprisingly, events in the Ukraine are only accelerating this push). By contrast, Australia’s production volume of biomethane is <1% of total supply! We hope to change this, with the proposed Ararat Bioenergy project set to be equal to the largest biogas plants in the world at full scale, based on current target specifications and modelled output.
